Prototype Umbrella
A few years ago, I came up with the idea to improve the traditional umbrella design. Recently, I successfully created a working prototype that performed as expected, and I registered it as a utility model.
At first glance, this idea may not seem to have a direct practical application. However, on the other hand, it offers an element of fun for both children and adults, potentially reintroducing the umbrella as an exciting accessory rather than just a tool. The concept has the potential to make the umbrella not only functional but also engaging, sparking a new level of interaction with an everyday object.
The umbrella handle is modified to include a ratchet mechanism, which allows the umbrella to rotate around its axis with just a flick of the wrist. This adds an entirely new dimension to using the umbrella—by simply moving the wrist, the user can rotate the umbrella in a pre-selected direction. The umbrella shaft rests on the user’s shoulder and slides along the clothing, while the rotation continues due to inertia and can be maintained with additional wrist movements.
The ratchet mechanism has a switch that indicates the desired rotation direction, activated by a standard ratchet head. An additional button allows the user to engage or disengage the ratchet mechanism, meaning the handle can be either rotatable or fixed. The handle itself can be replaced through a screw or click system, allowing for further customization.
To enhance the design, the ratchet mechanism can be replaced with a freewheel clutch or a similar mechanism to minimize noise during rotation. The entire mechanism can also be mounted directly onto the umbrella crown, providing flexibility in the overall design.
Although the idea may seem unconventional, it could bring a fun and playful element to an everyday object, and who knows—it might just pave the way for the umbrella to be seen as a stylish accessory once again.
If necessary, I am happy to send the prototype for further review.
